White Graffiti Tartan Suit and Sack Boots

I picked up this suit from Japan, it's made by the Japanese VW manufacturer, which means the quality is a little bit different than the Italian manufacturer.  The buttons are a golden metal with the orb imprinted into it, as opposed to the brown carved buttons of the Italian version.  Also the fabric is a bit more of a lighter weight woolen weave, which is slightly less itchy to wear than my Italian graffiti tartan skirt as it is a bit rough to the touch.  It's interesting to see the difference in quality between the two manufacturers.

このスーツは日本の赤タグです。日本製のものなので、イタリア製のものとちょっと違いますね。例えば、日本製のボタンは金色メタルなスタイルが、イタリア製のボタンは茶色です。生地もちょっと違います。にほん製は軽いウール生地が、イタリア製はもっとヘビー。違いことは面白いね。

Color/Figure Studies

Today I felt like painting all day, and ended up doing three color and figure studies.  I love doing free for alls.  No reference material was used, I just let my hand do whatever it wanted, pulling images from my mind that I have been thinking about today.  Seeing as I've been watching way too many old movies lately, I'm a bit obsessed with old feminine silhouettes.  They are all 16"x20" oil on canvas.

今日は一日中油彩を描きたいと思って、３枚色と体の研究を描きました。何でも描きが好きです。写真とか何も見なくて、手の自由に好きなイメージを描きました。最近古いハリウードの映画ばかり見てるので、五十代の女のシルエットが気に入った。全部は１６x２０インチ、キャンバスに油彩。

These shoes are amazing.  With the gold heels and the vibrant blues and reds of the McCambridge tartan, I knew I had to have them as soon as I saw them, but as with all things luxury/new, I tend to wait until the end of the season to see if I can I snag them at a bargain price instead of paying full retail just to have them at the start of the season.  With a bit of patience and a lot of luck, they dropped to about half off on Zappos during the end of season sales.  It was meant to be!

Accessories Sack Boots - Damage Control

I found the accessories label sack boots for a nice price on Yoox.com a couple weeks ago, and since I don't have any of the sack boots in my collection, I thought it would be a good idea to get them since I'm saving my money and can't quite yet justify ordering a pair of gold label toe sack boots (I will get them eventually though!).  They look like the ones from the Gold Label SS10 runway show, but with regular flat laces instead of ropes to tie them.  Sadly, I think I got the defect pair.  When they arrived the shoe lace was accidentally sewn into the inner seam, making it impossible to pull the lace tight, the laces themselves had pulls in the weave, and the inner sole is a bit too big for the shoe and bunches around the inner toe.

I thought at first that I would have to send them back for a refund, but the shoes fit nicely, and the leather is soft and beautiful.  It seemed like a waste to just send them back where they would ultimately end up destroyed.  So, despite the price I paid, I decided to see if I could fix them myself, and salvage what could be a perfectly nice pair of leather shoes.  I pulled out my seam ripper and sewing machine, and found that by complete chance had matching thread too, and got to work.  I ripped out about a 3 inch section of the seam, pulled the lace out, and sewed it back up.  You almost can't even tell that they've been altered unless if you look at them closely.  I can live with the pulls in the lace, I figured that they'd get that way eventually from wear and tear, and the inner soles don't bother my feet when I wear them, making it a moot point.  I feel a bit happy now that they're fixed and I don't have to send them back to an early grave.

One of my all time favorites in Vivienne Westwood's range of tartans is the graffiti tartan from the A/W 2005 collection.  Specifically this black/red/white color way with the non-logo scribbles.  I like the logo graffiti version too, but there is something a bit more chaotic and alluring about the random scribbling that I prefer.  My first handbag by VW was in this tartan, but sadly my love for that bag meant that I destroyed it with many years of use, along with the matching tri-fold wallet.  This is what is left of my collection of graffiti tartan, the beret, skirt, and cross body bag.  The shoes are also lined in a similar tartan.  The wool gets a bit itchy on the inside of the straps, so I don't quite wear these shoes very often, but they look so cute it's hard to let them go.  

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year everyone!  For the first day of the year, my friend challenged me to take 366 photos, as opposed to the popular 365 photos each day for the entire year.  I failed miserably in my attempt.  I had a fun idea to take a picture of myself in the same pose wearing 366 different outfits, but it took too much time, and only got about 15 pictures in before I got hungry, and then tired, and gave up.  
This year is going to be fairly eventful if I can manage to keep my strength up.  I don't know quite yet what direction I'm going to take with my blog at the moment.  I'll probably just keep posting coordinate pictures when I get new things, but in the coming months I plan to put all major purchases on hold while I save up for some epic travel adventures.  So this may turn into a fashionable adventure blog depending on how the year pans out.
